A company called House of Hammocks has defined a formula, by which you can calculate how big a dog-house is required for your dog. Dogs require smaller doors than what their total height is and they have to have an opening large enough to accommodate their width. When it comes to measuring the height of the house, all that is needed is to add approximately 1” (2.54cm) to the “A” measurement that can be seen below. This shows the length of the top of the shoulder to the bottom of the chest.
When wanting to buy a doghouse, your first consideration should be the door. It is basically the most important factor. After all, your dog needs to get easily in and out of the house. Thus, the A-B-C method for determining the ideal dog house size has been developed by the House of Hammocks. it is as follows:
The A-B-C Method:
There are three measurements that are needed to determine the size of a dog house. They are defined as follows:
A: The distance from the dog’s shoulder to the bottom of his chest.
A: The door opening's height needs to be at least 1” (2.54cm) inch taller than the shoulder to chest measurement. It is also an advantage to try to elevate the house off the ground by half of the “A” measurement.
Thus: If the “A” measurement is 10 inches (25.4 cm), the door height opening needs to be 11 inches (27.94cm) . The house should be elevated off the ground level by 5 inches (12.7cm)....
