Paul McCartney of the Beatles included a dog whistle into one of his songs "A Day in the Life". The ultrasonic whistle could only be heard by dogs and was meant for his Shetland Sheepdog.

Shetland Sheepdog

At first glance, a Shetland Sheepdog resembles a Colie. However, they are much smaller, and this makes them great pets for those living in Apartments.

They are remarkably healthy, and make very loyal companions. Observations show that they are very good around children too. They are noted for their Intelligence. Ranking 6th out of 132 breeds according to Stanley Coren, they are one of the most intelligent dogs around.

Comments

Thanks for this blog. I'm a very big McCartney fan, especially his Wings stuff. I was told once that a bit hit of his "Jet" was about a dog of his, a black Labrador, if I remember well. Can anybody confirm this or tell me that I am completely barking up the wrong tree (mind the pun)? Just curious to know? Paul, are you out there browsing away and able clear this up for me?

A Old English Sheepdog ("Martha" pictured with Paul McCartney) doesn't resemble a collie ("Lassie") and is much bigger than a collie. A Shetland Sheep Dog is a Sheltie which looks like a miniature collie.

Yes, "Jet" was indeed inspired by Paul McCartney's Labrador Retriever puppy...
